Bali visa guide for US citizens
US citizens entering Bali need a Visa on Arrival (IDR 500,000 ≈ USD 35) plus a separate Bali tourism levy (IDR 150,000 ≈ USD 10). Apply for the e-VOA online before travel to skip the airport queue.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| VOA fee | IDR 500,000 (~USD 35) |
| Bali levy | IDR 150,000 (~USD 10), separate |
| Initial stay | 30 days |
| Extension | Once, additional 30 days (IDR 500,000) |
| Maximum stay (VOA) | 60 days |
| All Indonesia card | Mandatory, complete online within 72 hours before arrival |
Note: The Bali tourism levy and the VOA are two separate fees. Both must be paid. The levy is paid at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. The VOA is paid at the airport or online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
Three things to do before arriving in Bali
1. Complete the All Indonesia arrival card
All visitors must complete the free digital arrival card at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id within 72 hours before arrival. It covers immigration, customs, and health declarations and generates a QR code. Present the QR code at immigration on arrival.
2. Pay the Bali tourism levy
Pay the IDR 150,000 (approximately USD 10) Bali tourism levy at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before or on arrival at Ngurah Rai Airport. You will receive a QR code by email. This levy is separate from your VOA fee and is mandatory for all international visitors entering Bali.
3. Apply for e-VOA online (recommended)
Apply for your electronic Visa on Arrival at evisa.imigrasi.go.id at least 48 hours before your flight. The fee is IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 35) paid by Mastercard, Visa, or JCB card. You will receive your e-VOA by email — print it or save it on your phone. Presenting an e-VOA at arrival allows you to use the faster e-Gate lanes at Ngurah Rai Airport.
Arriving at Ngurah Rai Airport — what to expect
- 1
After landing, follow signs to Immigration.
- 2
Have ready: your passport, All Indonesia QR code, Bali levy QR code, and your e-VOA (if applied online) or IDR 500,000 cash/card for on-arrival VOA purchase.
- 3
If you applied for the e-VOA online, proceed to the e-Gate lane for faster processing.
- 4
If you did not apply online, join the VOA counter queue. Pay IDR 500,000 by card or cash (USD, EUR, IDR accepted at most counters).
- 5
Immigration will stamp your passport with a 30-day VOA. Note the exact expiry date.
- 6
Collect your luggage and proceed through customs.
- 7
Present your Bali levy QR code at the designated checkpoint after customs if requested.
Extending your stay in Bali
The VOA can be extended once for an additional 30 days at the Bali Immigration Office (Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I Khusus Ngurah Rai in Denpasar, or a regional office closer to where you are staying).
Key rules for extensions:
- Apply at least 7 days before your current 30-day stamp expires
- Cost: IDR 500,000
- Since June 2025 (Circular Letter IMI-417.GR.01.01/2025): all extensions must be done in person at the immigration office — you must attend yourself for biometric data (fingerprints and photo). Agent-only processing is no longer permitted.
- Bring: passport, passport-sized photo, completed extension form (available at the office), and proof of accommodation
- Processing is typically same-day at less busy offices. Denpasar main office may require 1–2 days during peak season.
After 60 days, you must leave Indonesia. You cannot obtain a second VOA extension. For longer stays, a separate visa such as a C1 Social/Cultural visa or KITAS must be arranged — ideally before arrival.
