Canada and Thailand maintain a bilateral visa exemption allowing Canadian passport holders to enter Thailand without a prior visa. Canadians can stay for up to 60 days per entry for tourism or short business purposes. This applies to arrivals by air, land, and sea crossings.

Extending Your Stay in Thailand

Canadians can extend their visa-exempt stay by 30 days at any Thai immigration office before their original 60-day period expires. The fee is 1,900 baht. Extensions are generally granted once per entry. For longer stays, a tourist visa (TR) or other appropriate visa must be obtained before entry.

Overstay Penalties

Overstaying in Thailand results in a fine of 500 baht per day, capped at 20,000 baht total. Overstays of more than 90 days can result in detention, deportation at your own expense, and re-entry bans ranging from 1 to 10 years.
